8 Jul 2024 - 12 Jul 2024 All day CRASSH Meeting Room

Description

Applications are open

I loved this week! I benefitted from having time marked out for the sole purpose of writing, with a commitment to working within specific hours, having accountability, the advice from Nicole Janz (writing coach), and the excellent camaraderie of the group. I wrote A LOT of a draft chapter in these 5 days and am delighted with my progress.

Would you like focused time to write? Do you think you would benefit from joining a writing community? If so, you may be interested in taking part in one of our CRASSH writing weeks.

Please note: reapplications from previous participants are not possible in this round.

What’s involved?

  • Participants will meet as a group for 30 minutes each morning to share writing goals and practices, before everyone disperses to their preferred writing space (space can be provided in CRASSH if you wish).
  • The week will also include two 90-minute workshops. One, led by a professional writing coach, will focus on how to develop good writing habits, manage time, and avoid burnout. The other, led by a communications specialist, will explore writing for impact and public engagement.

Who is it for?

  • The week is for UTOs, CTOs, Teaching Associates, and post-doctoral researchers.
  • You must be employed full-time in an academic post at the University of Cambridge or one of its Colleges and currently undertaking research in the arts, social sciences, or humanities (broadly defined).

Writing week March 2024

What does it cost?

The Writing Week is free to attend but we ask for 100% commitment to the week’s activities. Please confirm that you will set aside at least 7 hours each day during the Writing Week to dedicate to your writing and the programme’s activities.

How do I apply?

Applications are open. The deadline for applications is 21 May 2024. Applicants will be informed of the outcome within 10 days of the application deadline.

No proposals or references are required.

How will applicants be selected?

There are 12 places available. If we receive a higher number of applications, the only criterion we will use in selecting applicants is to ensure a good spread across disciplines and departments; after that, we will use a random selection tool. If you are not selected this time, you will be given priority for a future Writing Week.

It was a wonderful week! I personally made so much progress in my writing. Having people around and a designated room just to write were very useful.

I managed to make substantial progress on my book proposal and connect with similarly-minded scholars. It felt empowering to be part of a supportive group with scholars from various fields and at different stages of their careers.
