Charlotte Hammer (Fellow in Emerging Infectious Diseases, Downing College)

Summary

Have you ever wondered what is done to actually confirm the outbreak of a disease? Disease Detectives are the ones who investigate when there is an outbreak. All your schoolmates are vomiting? We’ve got you covered. Sniffles making the rounds in your family? We can sort that out as well. Zombies? Why not.

In this interactive and hands-on workshop, epidemiologist Dr Charlotte Hammer will take participants through each step of the process based on what the real experts do in such situations. Participants will take the role of the outbreak investigators and learn essential skills covering outbreak management as well as basic epidemiological concepts and calculations. This workshop is suitable for all and is family-friendly. Participants do not need healthcare expertise to take part just their curiosity and a problem-solving mind-set.
