Description

Uncertain Futures: Anxieties and Adventures

Lecture and Workshop led by Dr Simon Western

The lecture will  be from 10.30 until 12.00pm followed by a workshop from 12.45 until 4.00pm.

A major concern of early career researchers is how to manage one's career.  In an increasingly unsure job market, the pressures of research, teaching, publishing, and doing all that is necessary to maintain a career trajectory without the security of a permanent position, can leave post doctoral researchers in a state of anxiety.  The public lecture and workshop by the executive coach Simon Western will focus on how to thrive in uncertainty to successfully negotiate the perils and pitfalls of being a post doctoral researcher and take control of one's career.

Dr Simon Western will speak from his recent book , Leadership a Critical Text (Sage, 2008), on new trends in organizational life.  He will then create a space for attendees to dialogue and reflect on their own futures.

Dr Simon Western is currently Principal Consultant at Tavistock Consultancy Service,  previously he was Director of Coaching at Lancaster University Managment School, and before that a psychoanalytic Family Therapist/Psychotherapist.

An outline for the Workshop will be available soon.
