Elaine Scarry Literary Theorist and Cultural Critic and Walter M. Cabot Professor of Aesthetics and General Theory of Value in the Department of English, Harvard University, explored the possibility of vast injury to the world posed by US nuclear weapons and, simultaneously, the way such weaponry nullifies the one thing that might act as a brake on war making – democratic citizenship.
