7 Feb 2003 All day McCrum Theatre, Cambridge

Description

McCrum Theatre, Bene't Street

Event organised by CRASSH (University of Cambridge)

CRASSH is pleased to announce the visit on Friday 7 February of Professor Geoff Crossick, Chief Executive of the AHRB. All senior members of the university, especially in the Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities are invited to attend this information day. It is expected that the AHRB will evolve into an AHRC and move from under the collective aegis of the Funding Councils of England, N. Ireland, Scotland and Wales to a new role within Research Councils UK under the Office of Science and Technology within the DTI. It is also anticipated that the long-awaited Government Funding Review of Higher Education will have been announced just before this visit, and Geoff Crossick will be able to share the AHRB's response to the new opportunities. The AHRB has recently undertaken major reviews of its role in the training of postgraduates in the Arts and Humanities and its support for PhD students and Geoff Crossick will address those issues.

There will be two parts to the day, which will begin with coffee at 11.00am. From 11.15am to 12.40pm, Geoff Crossick will share his view of the current and future plans of the AHRB and engage in discussion about them; from 2.15pm to 3.45pm he will be joined by John Morrill (Deputy Directory of CRASSH and Chair of the AHRB Research Committee) to take specific questions about the AHRB's activities.
