2 Jun 2005 All day CRASSH

Description

The botanist Joseph Hooker was Darwin's closest friend, and the letters they exchanged are a forty-year conversation between the most influential naturalist of the 19th century and his most intimate confidant. CRASSH and the Darwin Correspondence Project invite you to an evening of readings from their letters. The dramatisation is by Craig Baxter. Darwin will be portrayed by Malcolm Underwood (local actor and the archivist of St. John's College). Hooker will be portrayed by Jim Endersby, Research Fellow at the Department of History and Philosophy of Science, who is currently writing a book on Hooker and the History of Botany.
