Description
Convenors: Paul Chirico, Sarah Houghton Walker, Joanna Ball
Respondent: John Barrell (University of York)
Supported by the Centre for Research in the Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities, and the Judith E Wilson Fund,
This multidisciplinary conference will embrace new discussions of John Clare (1793-1864) by bringing together scholars from the fields of mental health, history, literary studies, natural history, and the history of the senses. Contemporary artistic and dramatic responses will be incorporated, and the day will conclude with an evening performance of Steve Waters' new production, Clare's Walk. On the following day there will be an opportunity to visit Clare's cottage in Helpston, which is being transformed into an educational, cultural and environmental centre.
