What is the In Search of ‘Good’ Energy Policy research group about?

The research group focuses on energy policy from an interdisciplinary perspective. What constitutes a ‘good’ policy is conditioned not only by technology and financial factors but also by social norms and values, institutions, geopolitics, public trust and history.

The seminar series explores energy policy themes from different disciplinary perspectives – economics, history, philosophy, theology, politics, law, anthropology, psychology, engineering – with the aim of identifying principles and processes for ‘good’ energy policy making.

What are the big questions, issues and themes that you are dealing with?

  • Sustainable energy models
  • Legacy investments
  • The use of evidence and prediction
  • Public trust, understanding, attitudes and beliefs
  • Institutional design and collective action
  • The varying concepts of what is ‘good’ and ‘just’ in the context of energy policy
  • The role of the state
  • Technology improvements and new business models

Who will it be of interest to?

The Seminars are open to all researchers, industry and government representatives and the wider general public who are interested in energy related issues.
