Bonnie is a postdoctoral researcher within the Centre for the Study of Existential Risk (CSER). Her role is to ‘horizon scan’ for the early identification, management and mitigation of possible extreme risks associated with future technological advances. Horizon scanning is a way of sorting through the deluge of complex information and data faced by policy and decision makers, to look for trends or signals that deserve attention. It aims to alert us to these trends and signals before they take us by surprise.
Her work is supported by the Templeton World Charity Foundation as part of the Managing Extreme Technological Risk project at CSER.
About
Dr Bonnie Wintle's doctoral thesis explored ways to improve expert judgement for environmental decision making,. It was completed in the School of Biosciences at the University of Melbourne under the supervision of Prof. Mark Burgman and Dr Fiona Fidler. Bonnie has a background in ecology, and her more recent focus has been on expert elicitation in biosecurity. She has also worked as a cartographer and in government for a national parks agency.
