About
Carla Suthren is a research associate on the ERC-funded project, Crossroads of Knowledge in Early Modern England: The Place of Literature. She completed her PhD, entitled ‘Shakespeare and the Renaissance Reception of Euripides’, at the University of York in June 2018. Her doctoral work, which she is currently revising for publication, explored receptions of Euripides from Erasmus to Milton, establishing a context for re-evaluating the traditional consensus that Shakespeare’s works do not reflect any meaningful engagement with Greek tragedy. Her general interests are in Renaissance literature and classical reception, and she is currently researching printed commonplace marks in sixteenth-century texts.
