About
Cléo is a postdoctoral research associate on the project Expertise Under Pressure, funded by the Humanities and Social Change International Foundation. In her current project at CRASSH, she is studying the epistemic power of research tools in decision-making contexts. She focuses on the impact of quantitative analysis produced by economists in two contexts: public policy regarding cities, and courtrooms.
In the study, supervised by Mike Kenny, she analyses how the idea of agglomeration emerged from the work of economists and economic geographers, and how this body of knowledge became influential in policy thinking. In her work on economists as expert witnesses in courts, she produces a comparative analysis of the credibility of expertise stemming from the different social sciences.
More broadly, Cléo is interested in the history of the social sciences, especially economics, the sociology of quantification, and the socio-history of expertise.
Prior to joining CRASSH, Cléo was a postdoctoral researcher at the Centre Walras-Pareto at the University of Lausanne (Switzerland). She holds degrees in politics, economics and epistemology from Sciences Po Lille and the University Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, France.
