Aims

The STBS Forum has two aims: First, at a general level, the Forum provides a shared space for exchange about research in this area, bringing together participants with different disciplinary approaches and departmental ‘homes’ in Cambridge, for example in Geography, in HPS, at JBS, in the Clinical School, in Social Anthropology, in the Faculty of Law, and in Philosophy.
The second, more academic aim of the Forum is to explore the relationship between STBS and established disciplines in the social sciences and humanities including areas like engineering and management studies. What  can STBS bring to these disciplines as a distinct mode of study, and where are the blind spots in the STBS literature with respect to these disciplines?
It follows from this aim that wherever possible, discussion in the STBS Forum will always also explore general theoretical issues that span disciplinary perspectives.

The STBS organises 6 sessions that will primarily be reading groups or discussions of work in progress by group members as well as 6 informal seminars during the academic year. Some of the speakers at these seminars will be leading scholars in the STS area.

Anyone who wishes to present their work or wishes to suggest a speaker for the STBS Forum, should contact the organisers.
