Masterclass with Veena Das (Johns Hopkins University)
Saturday, 3rd of July, 3-5pm

Venue TBC

Postgraduate students attending the conference have the opportunity to participate in a masterclass with Veena Das, Krieger-Eisenhower Professor of Anthropology at Johns Hopkins University. Students will discuss several chapters from Professor Das’ forthcoming book, tentatively entitled Textures of Life and the Fragility of the Self: The Urban Poor, as well as from her book Life and Words: Violence and the Descent into the Ordinary (2006). This workshop will also provide students with an opportunity to discuss their own research as it variously intersects with professor Das’ expertise.

To enroll in the masterclass please first register for the conference, and then email Catherine Trundle (catherine.trundle@vuw.ac.nz) with your name, affiliation, and a forwarded copy of your conference registration confirmation. Copies of the reading texts will be circulated to students by email several weeks before the conference. Students will be selected on a first come first served basis, with priority given to PhD students.
