Reframing Climate Policy: Reflections on Science, Politics and the New Agents of Change
The winter of 2009 – 2010 was considered crucial for the future of global climate politics. Yet, after ‘climategate’ and the COP15 the world did not have a global and legally binding treaty and the trust in climate science was damaged. The recent upsets have suddenly created uncertainty about which way to go. Drawing on both his new book Authoritative Governance – Policy Making in an Age of Mediatization, and his work as director of the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency Maarten Hajer will reflect on the changing role of science, politics and the role of the state suggesting the need to reframe climate policy. It is not a politics of facts but a politics of perspectives that is required. Maarten will illustrate some implications of this reframing of climate policy for the governance of innovation.
