Dr. Paul R. Brumpton (Open University)
Since completing my doctoral research in 1994 I have worked at the universities of Leeds, Brunei and Lincoln and I am currently teaching with the Open University. I published my doctoral thesis Security and Progress: Lord Salisbury at the India Office in 2002 along with an accompanying volume of correspondence and I am now working on a study of the career in India and South Africa of Sir Bartle Frere. My main research interests lie in nineteenth century British imperial history and I have a particular interest in official thinking and policy making.
