Theresienstadt, living among the dead...

Between June 1940 and May 1945, the Nazis established a concentration camp in Czechoslovakia at Theresienstadt . In the midst of Nazi barbarism, many artists from different parts of Europe worked in terrible conditions. One of them, Kurt Gerron, a famous Jewish German actor directed a short movie for propaganda purposes, representing the daily lives of the prisoners: Der Führer schenkt den Juden ein Stadt (Theresienstadt, 1944). All these people were sent to Auschwitz. My paper will present this movie, from the remaining archives, and explore daily life at Theresienstadt where the living lived among the dead.
