Geospatial modelling of UK crime data
Bob Haining (Geography)

The talk will provide an example of the analysis of georeferenced offence and offender data provided by police forces in England. It involves the modelling of police perceptions of ‘high intensity crime areas’ in Sheffield. The results of this modelling are compared with results obtained from modelling Sheffield police's own recorded offence and offender database. The aim is to reveal the underlying differences between these two representations of high crime areas and to try to move to a statistical reconciliation of these two sources of information.
