From Household to Region: Incorporating Agency into the Interpretation of Regional Settlement.
T.J. Wilkinson (Archaeology, Durham)

Using approaches developed as part of the University of Chicago MASS Project and the Durham Fragile Crescent Project, this lecture outlines how Agent Based Models can be harnessed to analyze the development of settlement at a wide range of scales. However, it is also crucial to appreciate the challenges that must be met when developing these models, as well as their limitations. Examples are drawn from the Middle East, primarily from Syria, Iraq and southern Turkey.
