CRASSH, 17 Mill Lane, Cambridge
Convener
Amy Donovan (Department of Geography)
The Risk and Uncertainty Reading group was established as a response to a growing interest within Cambridge on interdisciplinary perspectives on risk and uncertainty. In 2009-10 CRASSH hosted a “Mellon-Sawyer” seminar series on risk in which members of several different disciplines became involved, and this reading group was intended to build up a community of researchers who would otherwise not have the occasion to meet and discuss their perspectives on risk, but who had nonetheless expressed an interest in the seminar series and other, similar activities planned for the coming years in Cambridge. Topics for discussion include: risk communication, philosophy of risk and probability, sociology of risk, public understanding of statistics, risk policy and any other topics on risk and uncertainty that members would like to have discussed.
To keep with the interdisciplinary nature of the topic, readings are suggested by members of the reading group as pieces from their discipline that they feel merit wider dissemination and discussion. Meetings are held fortnightly on Tuesdays from 1-2.00pm during term-time at CRASSH..
