CRASSH Visiting Fellowships Competition
The deadline for the 2013-14 competition has now passed and the online application system has closed.
CRASSH's Visiting Fellowships are designed to support the Centre's thematic activities. The 2013-14 theme is The Location of Knowledge. Visiting Fellowships can be awarded for periods of ten weeks in any one Cambridge term (term dates are available here), during which Fellows are expected to be in residence in Cambridge. Visiting Fellows take regular part in and contribute to the Centre's programme of events, in particular the weekly work in progress seminars.
Eligibility
Applicants to the Visiting Fellowship scheme should have an established
record of scholarly excellence and a demonstrated enthusiasm for
working in an interdisciplinary or multi-disciplinary environment.
Please note, the scheme is not designed for those beyond the normal
retirement age or to support post-doctoral study.
Provision
CRASSH offers work-space for each Visiting Fellow in the
Centre building, with full access to its facilities, and provides a
congenial social environment in which visitors, staff and scholars can
interact on an informal and regular basis. CRASSH will facilitate
access to further university resources (libraries, museums, etc).
Visiting Fellows will be recompensed for a return economy airfare or
train fare by the most direct route (for themselves, but not those
travelling with them). No salary-related component (pension, holidays,
medical insurance etc.) can be paid by CRASSH, but compensation
packages for the real cost of renting accommodation in Cambridge will
be considered up to an agreed limit. A discretionary subsistence allowance (one per term) may be made available to scholars from developing countries who are unable to get funded sabbatical leave.
CRASSH is often able to arrange accommodation or other links for its
Visiting Fellows at Wolfson College, and will make every effort to
do so for its Visitors in 2013-14. Where accommodation cannot be made
through a College, CRASSH will assist - through the University's
Accommodation Service - in finding suitable lodgings.
How to Apply
No paper or emailed applications can be accepted. In order for your application to be considered by the Selection Committee, we must receive a completed application via the online application system, including letters of support from your two nominated referees, by the deadline.
To access the online application system, please click on the link here or on the right. Please contact us via email on fellowships@CRASSH.cam.ac.uk if you experience technical difficulties with the system or if you require further information about eligibility or provision.
The following information will be required:
- a CV to be uploaded as a PDF file (maximum 8Mb);
- a brief description of the project you propose which should be related to the theme The Location of Knowledge. Type your description directly into the box indicated, remembering to Save after each addition/amendment. The system will not allow you to exceed the 10,000 character limit.
- a sample chapter of published work, to be uploaded as a PDF file (maximum 8Mb).
- the contact details of two referees who
are familiar with your work. We advise that you separately alert your
nominated referees of your application and the deadline. Referees are given access to your application via an email
containing a link that is triggered by your clicking the Send Email
button. Once you've
ticked the Send Email button, the system will contact your nominated
referee, who must submit their reference via this system by the deadline.
If referees are unable
to provide a reference by the deadline you will be alerted and will need to nominate an alternative referee. The
system will indicate when your references have been submitted. (Applicants are unable to view confidential references.) You may
amend your nominated referees up to the point of their
submitting a confidential reference. Once your referee submits their confidential comments you will
no longer be able to change their details.
- To submit your completed application, click on the Submit button at the bottom of the page. You can submit at any time up until the deadline, provided all fields (excluding referees' comments) have been completed. You can log in to view and amend your application after submission.
Please note that uploaded documents MUST be PDF files, maximum file size 8Mb. The system will not allow you to submit your application without these.
The results of the competition will be announced by the end of December 2012.
