Join Beverley Carruthers and Jane Woollatt for an ‘in conversation’ session with artists Rosy Martin and Kay Goodridge.

Artists Jane Woollatt and Beverley Carruthers have known each other for over 35 years, and for the past 5 years they have worked together on a project motivated by menopause. The project has evolved and developed through the process of making and thinking together, anchored by using a specific location; an intertidal space on the Essex coast named Two Tree Island. They consider the Island echoes a female body, demonstrating the depth of their relationship to the place. Using props and costumes which have been modified and adapted over time, they have produced a series of stills and moving images. Encounters with the public are welcomed as they perform for the camera in plain sight, happily answering questions from passers-by.

Artists Rosy Martin and Kay Goodridge work collaboratively using theoretical and performative strategies to analyse and contest the social and cultural constructions of the ageing body.

There are many common threads, weaving between all these artists. They make work in collaboration, that is at times playful, confrontational, intellectual, vulnerable, transgressive, and carnivalesque. They have chosen to use photography and film as their mediums. During the conversation they will uncover thoughts and ideas about making work from a lived experience specifically confronting questions about ageing.

Join them for this intriguing insight into their creative process, their experience as artists, working in collaboration and their unique look at menopause and ageing.

There will also be a follow-up workshop on 3 April 2021 where you will get to explore some of the artistic methods used by the artists.
