2 Jun 2014 5:00pm - 7:00pm CRASSH Seminar room SG1

Description

Dr Laura Cull (University of Surrey)

Eirini Kartsaki (Artist, Anglia Ruskin)

Abstract and Biographies

Laura Cull  will talk about the idea of 'performance as philosophy' – which will resonate with her emphasis on thinking through/with performance. The emphasis will be on the powers of the arts to philosophize through their own media in ways that have the potential to reopen the very question of what counts as philosophical thought.
Eirini Kartskaki will share,  No Pillow Talk.  A disguised performance lecture which explores the restlessly domestic and pathologically inauthentic aspects of daily life: a rant about boyfriends who fall asleep before the sun goes down.

Laura Cull is Senior Lecturer in Theatre Studies and Director of Postgraduate Research for the School of Arts at the University of Surrey, UK. She is author of the book, 'Theatres of Immanence: Deleuze and the Ethics of Performance' (Palgrave, 2012), editor of 'Deleuze and Performance' (Edinburgh University Press, 2009) and co-editor with Will Daddario of 'Manifesto Now! Instructions for Performance, Philosophy, Politics' (Intellect, 2013).  Laura is a founding core convener of the professional association Performance Philosophy and a co-editor of the Performance Philosophy book series for Palgrave Macmillan.

Eirini Kartsaki writes and performs. She has presented her work nationally and internationally (V&A, Arnolfini, Whitechapel Gallery, Camden People’s Theatre, East End Collaborations, The Place, Biennale d'Art Contemporain de Lyon, etc.) and has published in journals Activate, PerformArt and Choreographic Practices. She is currently working on her monograph Repetition in Performance, which will be published in 2016 by Palgrave. Eirini is currently a Senior Lecturer in Drama in Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge.
