During the first half of the session, we will discuss themes that emerge across and within each of these four short readings, to lay the foundations for the remainder of the term’s discussions. At the beginning of the second half, there will be a short 20 minute presentation by Brig. Andrew Sharpe, titled The Trouble with Strategic Leadership in International Interventions, based on his experiences in military service and with multi-national task forces in peacekeeping operations, especially in the Balkans.
Following Sharpe’s presentation, we will discuss his insights into problems of leadership, cooperation and operationalization in relation to the previous discussion of readings.
