Professor Javed Majeed (Queen Mary, University London), on Mohammad Iqbal's poetry.

Chair:
Pervaiz Nazir (Dept of Politics and International Studies -POLIS)

Iqbal (1877-1938) was an Indian Muslim separatist who questioned post-colonial resistance from the perspective of a pan-Islamist; he re-historicises Islamic identity through invoking epistemologies which seem opposed to Islamism today: Hellenism, liberalism and self-imposed exile.
