Description

Practices of Value: Reflections on the Ethics of Consumption

Mishko Hansen  (PhD Candidate Judge Business School)

In this session I would like to investigate some of the ways in which products and services contribute to the formation of subjectivities through what I am terming “practices of value”. Drawing on anthropological work, particularly Daniel Miller's A Theory of Shopping and The Comfort of Things, as well as social theorists concerned with the constitution of subjectivity including Foucault, Bourdieu, and Charles Taylor, I will offer some reflections on the ethics of consumption in an age of corporate-led globalization.

All welcome.  No registration required
