Art platforms: creating mate lit

Udaff.com is a Russian-language based internet platform, of a kind I call art platforms that present a new digital mechanism of developing an art current and achieving some kind of aesthetic brilliance through work with folklore, everyday and imitative creativity. The talk will focus on “mate lit” (a male variant of “chick lit”) developed around particular Internet sites with an emphasis on the change brought about to the advance of creative work by new media technology, “social tools” and late capitalism.

Olga Goriunova is currently a Lecturer in Interactive Media at the Centre for Cultural Studies, Goldsmiths College.
