Dr Hannah Dawson (University of Edinburgh)
Friday, 10 September 2010Location: CRASSH
Convenor: Dr Hannah Dawson (University of Edinburgh)
Following his award of a Balzan Prize, Professor Quentin
Skinner established the annual Balzan-Skinner lecture and associated colloquium
in modern intellectual history, to be held under the joint auspices of the
Faculty of History and CRASSH. The inaugural lecturer is Dr Hannah Dawson of
the University of Edinburgh, who has chosen as her theme the normativity of
nature. She will examine the relationship between nature and morality in early
enlightenment thought. A triumvirate of scholars will then explore certain key
moments in the development of the theme: Professor Christopher Gill (University
of Exeter) on Stoicism, Professor Sarah Hutton (University of Aberystwyth) on Cambridge
Platonism, and Dr Lena Halldenius (Malm? University) on Mary Wollstonecraft.
