CRASSH Director Appointed Inaugural John Harvard Professor 2014-2019

CRASSH Director Simon Goldhill, Professor in Greek Literature and Fellow of King’s College, has been awarded a new research chair in the Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities. The 'John Harvard Visiting Professorship' enables the postholder to conduct inter-disciplinary research into a problem of pressing modern relevance.  Simon’s project, ‘Topographies of Citizenship’, will explore three interlocking problems in the contemporary Middle East: urban economic apartheid manifested in man-made boundaries such as walls and gated communities; litoral politics: the sea coast as a major natural boundary politicised by issues of access to resources; and the closely related issues of democracy and participation. The project will begin in 2014/15.
